Has it really been a month since I last posted? And after such a big post, too? Thank you all so much for your lovely comments, I’m happier than I can express. Apologies for the long gap between writing – I’ve been struck down with one of the nastier colds I’ve had, exacerbated by a very busy month at work. I’m definitely on the road to recovery though, and looking forward to getting back into the swing of life.
Can you believe how close we are to Christmas? I can’t. I think it’s probably partly due to the weather – we’ve just had the coldest Spring in 13 years, so it’s hard to imagine that Christmas is just a few weeks away. It does mean I’m getting a little bit more wear out of my trans-seasonal pieces though, including this pretty midi dress from Scarlett & Jo.
I bought it in a size down from the Lollidot dress that I bought earlier in the year, and it sees to fit my slopey shoulders a little better. It’s a mock wrap dress with a surplice crossover bodice and elasticized waist. The waist ties with an attached sash that’s probably a little unnecessary, and prevents me from wearing the dress with a belt, but it would be great for cinching the waist in if you’ve bought a size too large.
It’s made of a super soft jersey that wears well during the day, and the gorgeous navy floral print holds its colour well over repeated washes. The dress has little attached shoulder pads, the same as the Lollidot dress, which helps to give it a very 40’s silhouette.
You can see here that I made a tiny little stitch at the crossover point – with my full bust wrap dresses can be a bit fraught, and a little pin or stitch just helps me feel a bit more confident that I’m not flashing too much cleavage up and down the street! Because the dress is pull on – not a true wrap – a few stitches with needle and thread are enough to keep it closed permanently.
This is a great dress for those inbetweeny months where it’s neither hot nor cold, and it looks just as elegant with tights and a cardigan. It would be a great one to take on holiday as a back-up going out frock, as it rolls up very small, doesn’t crush, and is wonderfully comfortable.
If you decide to order, don’t forget to sign up to receive 15% off your first order, and make sure you check out the clearance section; one of the best parts about shopping from Australia is that you get to buy all the summer stuff at sale prices and wear it straight away – hopefully by the time it arrives it might even be hot!
You are glowing.
<3 Thanks Cilla. Life's pretty wonderful right now.
Did I miss something, lovely Lilli???? Last time I already thought you had this – don’t know – special vibe around you. And now you are definitely glowing. My mom turned partially grey when she was pregnant. Sooooooo … are you?
First time commenting- I’m under the impression people tell rather than ask!!!!
Great blog and has inspired many wardrobe choices!
Ha, thanks Ashling – I will definitely “tell” if and when the time comes 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to comment!
Is it appropriate to ask if a woman is pregnant?
You look great in this dress 🙂
LOL, thanks Carlie – there must be something in the universe: I’ve been asked three times this week!
Hi Una, no – must just be the just-engaged glow, and garden variety aging I’m afraid. No bubs on the horizon for me just yet, but hopefully it’s still in my future! I think there must be something in the universe around me though – I’ve been asked three times this week! – one of my beloved workmates is pregnant, so maybe the baby-vibe is rubbing off on me 🙂
I’m sorry if it was inappropriate (we Germans are neither really diplomatic nor are we talk around the bush kind of folks unfortunately) but you look so lovely and if it is just the glow of recently engaged you will definitely be shining when the time comes. You look stunning either way.
LOL, no stress Una – I wasn’t offended
Loving the grey hair – I am ‘transitioning’ from coloured to grey (at age 41) and am wavering, but seeing you I think I will persist.
It’s just so expensive and time-consuming to keep the greys at bay! I decided just to run with it, and if it all gets to be too much I can always start using semi-permanents. Good on you for transitioning! Silver pride!
This is such a beautiful dress, Lilli.
Also, I am LOVING the grey hair! I’m about the same amount of grey (underneath….) and considering not dyeing it but I’m not sure I could pull it off the way you do. For one thing, you put serious effort into those beautiful hairdos!
Ah darling, I really really don’t! Next time you come down I’ll teach you a couple of quick 2-minute do’s. With your lovely thick hair they should be a cinch.
This dress is so beautiful on you. I love the print so much.

Thanks Emma! It’s the print that sold it for me, too. Love a big bold floral!
Hey Lilli!
I was starting to worry about you! Yes, it has been a month….. too long between drinks ( or posts )!!
Love reading your blog and checking out your fabulous outfits. Grey hair? Where? I need to go back and have closer look at photos. I have been salt and pepper for the last few years and really like it.
Hope you are feeling much better now.
Carmel xx
Thanks Carmel – it’s crazy, isn’t it? It seems to have come out of nowhere, but I’m less upset about it than I thought I would be.
I’m feeling much better (thank you!) not quite 100%, but I’m feeling much more like myself!
