The very lovely Danimezza’s been running a great bloghop weekly challenge list for some time now entitled “Aussie Curves”, and it’s proving to be a spectacular success and an excellent way to discover some new plus-size bloggers on the interwebs at the moment.
This week’s challenge was “Breaking The Rules” which is a particular soft spot topic for me. Plus size “fashion” is ALL about rules. No horizontal stripes, no form fitting silhouettes, and definitely no colour for God’s sake.
Oh course, I abide by only one plus size fashion rule: Thou shalt not follow plus size fashion rules.
Which is why today you’ll find me in pale pink trousers (do not wear light colours below) that are cropped (a no-no for short individuals) and a bold horizontally striped top (the cardinal rule) with a high neck (definitely not for big boobs). And I feel pretty good, too.

I wasn’t entirely sure of the pants, but I think come summer I’ll be living in them. Can’t wear dresses ALL the time, and jeans can be too hot!
Today I wore a box cropped jacket over my volumptious G boobs and rocked it.

This outfit emphasises your curves in a really really good way.. it’s so chic! I am picturing you wandering the cafes of Paris or some such… I think your necklace is super cute too 🙂
There is something a bit deliciously French about the striped top, isn’t there? It was actually my fat-girl take on Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina. Cropped cigarette pants? Amaze.
Yes! I think if there is one across-the-board “rule,” it should be, Wear things that fit well. Everything in this outfit fits you beautifully, and the styling is perfect, like putting your hair up to not overwhelm high neckline. Then again, there are days when you should just wear what makes you happy. Your outfit posts are such an inspiration!

honestly? I have very similar outfit myself 😀 and I do not care what some people will think (in Poland they mostly also express their thoughts aloud, that one could hear what they are thinking… national sport: to make the fellow feel as low as possible :-/)

Aw, that sucks, M. Fortunately I haven’t had too many nasty comments about my size (or outfits). A couple of trolling emails, but nothing that I haven’t been able to shrug off. I wish people would just live and let live.

Rules or no rules you look amazing. I have always thought that horizontal stripes were glorious on girls with curves and no plus size rules have ever persuaded me otherwise. The high round neck thing though… that has taken me years to embrace… it all comes down to getting a great bra that gives very definite shape with no hint of rounded uniboob.
And pale pink cropped pants… I’m in love.
Me too! Horizontal stripes are my favourites! I definitely agree that you need the right bra to wear a high neck, but then having the right underpinnings is important all the time, isn’t it 🙂
I think wear what you like, that makes you feel good no matter the rules!
Im not a fan of light pants, more cos of the whole dirt thing (how do people keep light clothes clean and unstained????), but I think you look oh la la gorgeous!
Thanks Shelley! I’ve only very rarely worn light pants, and never if I’m having a sitting-down-in-public-places kind of day. So far so good with these. They’re pretty plasticky so everything mostly brushes off!
I have a bit of a love affair with stripes. I adore them so much that I have snapped at someone who said that they aren’t very flattering. Which is out of character for me. Normally. But I tell you what, this is about the most perfect example there is of stripes being awesome. Beautiful look.

Wow, Lilli! “Rule”-breaking is definitely the way to go, because you look amazing! Each element of this outfit is exactly perfect in colour, fit, and proportion – which are things I’m always admiring about your style – and here the effect is tremendous.
