I’ve never owned a blazer before, but after seeing both J from Fatshionable and Gabi from Young Fat and Fabulous (among others!) rocking the look I thought I’d hunt one down and see whether I could pull it off myself. It’s that kind of androgynous styling that’s never been one of my strong suits, but I particularly like the way Gabi teams them with ultra-short dresses, and I thought it was something I’d like to try come the warmer months.

I tried lots of shops, and everyone had them (it turns out blazers aren’t one of those things you’re going to have to search for – most stores have at least one version on offer) but the current trend is on tapered waists, and I wanted something more boxy so I ended up trying Savers in Brunswick who had dozens of the things on offer, and I managed to snap this one up for a mere $12.

The necklace was made for me by a girlfriend, and it’s great fun. She’s made the lengths adjustable, so it’s really versatile.

  1. 12 bucks for a blazer?! Well done. I have one on my “to-sew” list as I always find the arms alarmingly tight on me in ready-to-wear ones. Yours looks fab though – especially with the stipes 🙂

  2. Oooh, I do love a blazer! They are the bomb!
I went to savers in brunny and picked up an argyle cardie, made of nice wool (I think).
I am just re-discovering op shops!

  3. I have a love/hate relationship with blazers. I’ve yet to find one that I really like! I did buy a grey jersey one in the spring from Evans that so far has been the best. I really want a short puffed sleeved one.

  4. I’m a fan of the blazer. I have several that I often wear to work on colder days. I love this look on you, with the navy blue and red/white stripes. I love how you pulled it together with the red flats. They’re the perfect shoe for this outfit. You look smashing.

  5. Just recently found your blog & am loving your hints of how to find gorgeous clothing for us curvaceous women in Melbourne. Noticed also that you like the quirky handmade style jewellery -Ive discovered these guys not long ago & her pieces are fun vintage styles http://www.mecino.com.au/
    xx

  6. I really love blazers, but to be really honest, I think one with less broad shoulders (less padding) would look better on you. You are curvelicious, and this robust shoulderline makes you a bit brick-like. I’ld lose the eppaulettes to look more feminin.
    But great necklace-shoe-stripes combo!
