Frocks and Frou Frou Starstruck Frocks and Frou Frou Starstruck Frocks and Frou Frou StarstruckDay After Day Dress: Modcloth

Shoes: Naturaliser

I tried not to buy this dress. I really, really did.

I have enough dresses. I even probably have enough STAR PRINT dresses, and just because Modcloth – that wonderful repository of whimsical printed frocks, that brilliant online store that allows me to ask for true measurements for every item in every size, that body-positive, indie-designer-supporting, community-orientated fashion company – was doing a star print dress didn’t mean I had to buy it.

So I linked it up on Facebook, I pinned it on Pinterest, and I sat back and waited for it to sell out.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) my self-control lasted less time than Modcloth’s stock reserves, so here it is: proof that you can never have too many star-print frocks, and that Modcloth’s “Day After Day” dresses are a bit amazing, and you should buy one in every colour and print they do forever and ever amen.

Actually the “Day After Day” dresses have been designed by the British company “Emily and Fin” who – despite being available through a variety of avenues including their own webstore, and Asos – seem only to do plus-sizes with Modcloth.

I’m going to hazard a guess that Modcloth themselves have commissioned the extended size range to fit with their #styleforall philosophy of inclusion and body positivity as well as their awareness that an appreciation for cute frocks in endearing prints doesn’t end at a size 16.

Whatever the reason, they’ve got a new fan, and I definitely won’t be hesitating next time they bring out more Emily & Fin dresses in prints that make my heart sing. For one thing, the fabric’s a lovely tactile viscose that drapes well, and the dress is full lined with 100% cotton. The waist is in the perfect position for me, and the bust is full enough to encompass The Ladies. The arm-scyth isn’t so giant that I’m flashing my bra as soon as I lift my arms above my waist, and the little puffed cap-sleeves are flattering on my slopey shoulders.

There’s pockets…

Frocks and Frou Frou Starstruck… and a feature back

Frocks and Frou Frou Starstruck…and really, what more could you want from a dress?

  1. I contacted Emily & Fin about the lack of larger sizes, as being in the UK I was so annoyed I’d have to pay shipping to order a UK brand from the US.

They said they do have plans to release some size 18s next year, which is at least a start (and is my size, woop). So disappointing they can’t sell the larger sizes everywhere though, and so incredibly short-sighted.

    1. That’s good news! They’ve probably seen what kind of demand they could get from what moves through Modcloth (WAKE UP EVERY OTHER BRAND EVER). It’s annoying that they’re only doing up to an 18, but hopefully the other sizes will follow soon!

  2. Modcloth is so freaking addictive! Have you tried their app? I had to delete it from my phone!

Love the feature back on this, particularly with your hair shorter. Looking fab my dear.

    1. I knoooooooow! Yeah, I’ve signed up to their app but I’m not on it too much, fortunately! I love how they communicate with their customers (and allow their customers to communicate with each other!) through the reviews and the Style Gallery

  3. I too had been holding out on this dress for a long, long time… but having just sent back a return for credit only, I finally caved. I can’t wait to get it in the mail! It looks amazing on you and knowing Emily and Fin, I think I’m going to like it on me too 🙂

      1. Update: I finally got mine, and I too love it to pieces! Mine was a tad off size wise, but I just want to reiterate what you’ve already said – the Modcloth chat with help/stylist feature makes it so easy to get exact measurements! I now know sizing down will not work for me, so I will just adjust the one I have slightly instead of exchanging.

As an owner of now 4 Emily and Fin dresses, I obviously love the brand, but be warned – even the same dresses in different patterns may fit differently, so contacting about exact sizing is a must. Also, I find they always make high quality pieces, but the fabrics vary quite a bit…. this one is by far the softest I’ve seen (even more reason to love!)

Sorry I wrote a novel… I got excited about my first comment(s). Thanks for sharing with us!

  4. Lilli,
The dress looks so good on you, and Modcloth have 20% off all dresses at the moment, and well, I now have somehow ordered the dress for myself.
