Dream Of The Crop Cardigan: Modcloth

Dress: City Chic

Regina Shoes: Comfortview

Glasses: Vision Direct

I don’t watch a great deal of TV, but after growing up in a big house with lots of kids I’m not great with silence so I often have the telly on in the background in the evenings for a bit of ambient noise. (Yes, I know I could listen to music – but it does tend to leave one’s mind free for ruminating. And podcasts require me to actively listen, which can result in some terrible culinary disasters.)

At the moment the TV seems to be playing All Big Bang Theory, All The Time, and I’ll be honest; I don’t mind it. It’s been known to make me laugh. I think Sheldon’s hilarious.

My outfit today was inspired by the character Bernadette who always seems to wear cute full-skirted dresses with cropped cardigans. Like me she’s short and bosomy and I like that despite her pronounced curves she’s not hyper-sexualised.

I bought this little bunting-print dress last year from City Chic, and the sweetheart neckline was a revelation. It doesn’t dip so low that I feel exposed and overly cleavagy, but it’s definitely a showcase for, um, the ladies.

It’s hard to be busty and modest at the same time. Everyone tells you that you shouldn’t wear high necks because it just makes you look bigger (quelle horror!) but when you’re further along the alphabet in cup size (F, represent) lower scoop and v-necks can often expose you a bit more than you’re comfortable with.

A sweetheart neckline seems like the perfect compromise: it defines and enhances the shape of your bust without dipping too low or pulling too wide… I’ll definitely have to add a few more to my wardrobe.

  1. BTW, love it when I post comments on your blog. In Ontario, Canada it is 9:10am on Tuesday, October 7th. My posts show as 12:09am, Wednesday, October 8th. Very cool 🙂

  2. You look so supercute! Agree it’s hard not to look too everything when busty but this is just too perfect!!!

  3. This is pretty much my uniform every day – dresses and cute little cardigans. It took me a while to find my own personal ‘style’ but now I have a set formula which makes me feel comfortable and works for me….I work with the many variations on that theme. You look gorgeous and I have to confess that finding this blog was a big step on my style journey!!! Thank you.

  4. Honestly I kind of like it that she’s a super smart type as well, it’d be easy (and typical!) to have male scientists riffing off ditzy women all the time but she is sassy and holds her own.

    1. Yeah, I love that too. She’s definitely the most relatable of the female characters. I like that she has a lot of self confidence, and doesn’t put up with bullshit, too.

  5. Adorable! I love the BBT, and I totally covet everything in Bernadette’s closet. (Being short and busty/curvy myself.) And this is perfect!

  6. I love that bunting print!

How have you doing the dream of the crop cardigan? I’m currently considering buying one but have had a bad run with ModCloth stuff lately…

  7. I’m so glad I found you. I’ve always stayed away from dresses because i always thought they made me look too sexy. I’m full figured as well size G. But maybe with be a little cardigan I can let my love if dresses shine. 🙂 Thank you so much for posting.
