Cardigan: Glassons
Skirt: DIY
Shoes: Poetic License
Belt: Cotton On
Last week I was in Spotlight sourcing fabric for a DIY project I’ve had in mind for a while and I spotted this fantastically bright and beautiful stretch satin. It reminds me of confetti, and lollies (both good things) and even though it wasn’t even close to being what I needed for the aforementioned project I had to buy it.
Since I’m not very au fait with sewing with satin I decided to use the fabric to make an easy full circle skirt, and look – it was terrifically easy, a few hours work at the most.
There’s a lot of fabric in the skirt
so it twirls most satisfactorily
So very cute!
Thanks, Erin 🙂
I absolutely love your skirt! And how happy do you look in that last pic? Mind you, if I was wearing that skirt (let alone been able to make it myself) I’d be twirling away too!
I have to admit I was grinning while I was spinning… I sometimes wonder if the people in the office block over the road ever look out of their window and go “Who’s the loon pirouetting on the balcony down there?”
Loving the twirl! hehehe
LOL, thanks! 🙂
Oooo, I saw that fabric at Spotlight the other day and started imagining all sorts of whimsical uses but then I talked myself out of it. More fool me! It looks fab on you 🙂
Aw thanks! I totally impulse bought it! It reminded me a little of a Leona Edmiston dress I’d had my heart set on (but couldn’t afford) last year… I looked everywhere for a similar fabric at the time, so I had to snap this up as soon as I saw it!
I love it! How many twirly shots did you take before one was appropriate for publication? If I did that, it would probably be nothing but undie shots! Tee hee!
LOL, three shots! Of more concern were the surprising gusts of wind that caught me by surprise when I was walking over the bridge later that afternoon!
I <3 it! Fantastic!!
Aw thanks, Narelle 🙂 I love it too!
That’s just awesome!
Thanks Cathy 🙂
An absolutely gorgeous print for a skirt that would inspire anyone to have fun!
Thanks, Bella 🙂
Fabulous!! Love it! You are very talented! I love how we’re all getting back into crafting – I have a friend who crochets everything – even you if you stand still long enough!!
Im attempting to make an owl cushion …
Oooh – I love owls motives 🙂
My Mum & Nana were both really old school (handmade clothes, bottled fruit, homemade preserves, and DEFINITELY no shopbought biscuits) and I think I’ve inherited a bit of that. 🙂
I finished my Owl cushion – take a look!
Looks cute! well done
I love the combination of the black in the sweater and the colorfulness of the skirt, you look very pretty! Looks like you did a great job on the skirt!
Thankyou! I think in the warmer months I might try wearing the full rainbow of colours, but for the final days of a Melbourne winter I didn’t want to push my luck by being TOO colourful! 🙂
Gorgeous! And loving the longer hair. You look really happy…some might say you’ve got the glow of a girl in love….
Aw, thankyou! The hair’s actually driving me crazy! It’s not quite long enough not to kick out at the ends yet, and I’ve been looking at my old cropped bob and thinking “hmmnn….”
A very happy skirt! You do look so nice in it. I have a question though. Did you buy the sewing patterns and follow the instructions? I made a grand total of one skirt in my life and that was during home economics class when there was a teacher around and that was eons ago. Seeing how you made your own clothes do inspire me to try my hand at it but I might probably end up sewing my fingers together.
LOL – trust me, I am the most amateur sewer! My Mum & Nana both tried to teach me, but I’m too sloppy and impatient to be a really good dressmaker. I usually use a pattern – the easier the better! You can find a lot of easy beginner sewing classes around – ask at your local fabric shop for some ideas.
I definitely need sewing machine now 😀 I found a huge store with fabrics and I’m just drooooooooling 😉
There’s so much amazing fabric out there, isn’t there? You should be able to find a sewing machine pretty cheaply… try looking second-hand. A lot of people seem to inherit their Mums or Grandmas sewing machines, but turf them straight away. And those old cast iron behemoths like my Bernina are worth their (considerable) weight in gold.
oh, i have second-hand 4-floors store just around the corner 😀 but pfffffff, first i should know where i’m gonna stay 😀 and if that’s gonna take longer than few months 😉 my life is pretty nomadic these last few years 🙂
Gorgeous skirt!
I love a statement skirt with a funky print and a relatively plain top.
Twirl away!
LOL, Me too! I’m twirling as we speak 🙂
lilli
you, as always, have inspired me…i have my mums old singer, actually think it was grandmas, in storage…i want to be able to make things….i want to sew….small problem…i am what is commonly know as “the anti-christ of craft” (apologies if this offends)…where would i start…are there sewing patterns for beginners…..any advice appreciated….
And as always….damn but you look so pretty in your outfits!!
Lxx
LOL, thankyou! I’m pretty terrible at it, I have to admit – I don’t really have the patience to be a really good seamstress.
Most of the pattern collections will have a “Very easy” or “very quick” section and I usually find those are pretty manageable 🙂
I love this skirt! So very pretty
Aw, thankyou!
Lilli, just catching up on your blog…this skirt is divine! Love love love it! And just when we’re wondering where to buy it, turns out you MADE it?! You talented lady, you!
Love Lxx
I did! It’s a bit wonky arounf the hem department, but the fabric’s sooo divine 🙂
This is just stunning!
Omg!
That skirt and fabric is GORGEOUS!!
I’m like 4 months too late! What am I going to do? I’ll search spotlight and see if by some miracle they still have it! LOL.
so JEALOUS!
Oooh – let me know if you don’t have any luck, Sarah – I’ll keep my eyes open.
I just want this entire outfit! I adore it.
Are you sure you don’t sew for other people???? I’ve seen more than one of your outfits that I’d love to recreate.
