I hope you’ve all had lovely, restful weeks full of good food, friends and family. I certainly have.
The Sophisticate and I took a trip down to his family home, where we’ve spent the last five days being spoiled by his parents.
I don’t have any phone reception down there, and the internet is a bit patchy, so it’s always a really, truly holiday away from everything.
We’ve come back today with a bucket full of fresh-picked blackberries, so I’m in a frenzy of sticky-fingered jam-making. Though the stains around my mouth suggest to The Sophisticate that it’s a case of one-for-me, one-for-the-jam.
I’m wearing one of my many (too many, really) floral dresses and I feel very 1950’s with my apron and my home-made preserves.
I spotted this dress on a trek down Bridge Road a few months ago, but I haven’t worn it on the blog before. It was from Ginger Tree (no website, I’m afraid) and I seriously deliberated over buying it.
As you know, I have more than a few floral dresses, and more than a few of them look pretty much exactly like this one. But it was only $49, and on close inspection I liked the watercolour print A LOT.
The fabric seems to be some kind of weird coated cotton. It feels almost like it might be waterproof (it’s not, obviously). It’s reasonably heavy and holds its shape well, doesn’t crease badly, and the dress is fully lined.
The bodice is probably a smidge tight, but I don’t really mind getting my boobs squished if the fabric doesn’t look like it’s straining. Sometimes (often) having larger breasts can be a burden, and having a outfit where I can pretend I’m a modest C cup rather than a flamboyant F is a welcome change.
Best of all, the dress goes PERFECTLY with my favourite Poetic License pumps.
I have been reading your blog for years and never commented, even though on several occasions I’ve seen some of the same items I own pop up (I have the same red Chie Mihara shoes as you, same red heart cardigan etc).
When I saw this post I burst out laughing because I just bought TWO of these dresses today!!! The floral prints were so pretty I was tempted to buy even more :p. I’d like to think that if I have some of the same clothes as you that my sense of style can’t be too bad!

I bought mine at the Ginger Tree on Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn. They still had heaps there in all different colours 🙂

I bought the same one as you but in the purple/pink colour schemeand yellow and purple sleeveless one 😀

Definitely not! Though I’m madly trying to cut down on my wardrobe excesses this year. I can always find room for florals though. And polkadots. And stripes.

Your boobs certainly don’t look squished! Its a gorgeous gorgeous dress and I love the print! I need to wear my dresses more – I tried to do “dressember” but then it got really cold and wet here and I decided that I would be warmer in my jeans! Plus I have burgundy coloured jeans which are crying out to be worn – a lot! Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. Mine too was spent with the in-laws but nowhere near as relaxing as yours!
LOL, I like that – “Dressember”. I might steal it for next year 🙂 Definitely a good warm weather thing though. There’s always “Frocktober” I guess 😉

This is one of my favorites among your floral dresses! I felt a little envious as I saw it actually, because I never seem to find good floral dresses, but as I read through this I realized that the trick may just be to buy a lot of them. 😉

The print is lovely- soft and pretty- looks so feminine and pretty on!
I love the idea of florals but don’t seem to wear them, or if I do they’re darker more wintery prints rather than light and soft!
I have to admit I’m partial to a bold floral myself. Plus I’m really loving geometric prints right now. They’re hard to find in plus sizes though!
