Dress: Ginger Tree

Shoes: Yes Walker

Yep. Still hot. Bloody Melbourne’s suffering through a record-breaking heatwave that has resulted in 9 days straight of 30+ degrees… and the nights haven’t been much cooler.

Still, we just enjoyed a long weekend, I saw a FANTASTIC plus-size vintage fashion showΒ (where I feel stupidly in love with a bright yellow dress: drooooool), went to the ballet, and my Mum’s visiting, so life’s not all bad.

I’ve been obsessed with heart-toe shoes for a few years now, after seeing the original Melissa “Lady Dragon” shoes on umpteen wedding blogs. I even tried a pair on in-store, which is a huge concession for me because one thing I loathe with a burning passion is slingback shoes (probably sour grapes as I’ve never found a pair that will successfully stay on the backs of my feet properly).

My obsession has become so bad that I’m seriously considering paying hundreds of dollars to have a pair of heart-toe shoes custom-made for me by a professional shoemaker… or failing that, shelling out the obscene $35 shipping cost that Ban.Do puts on the international shipping for a pair of their Heart Shoe Clips.

You can’t imagine how delighted I was to spot these on Pinterest.

I don’t often buy shoes online – I have wide feet, and I spend a lot of my time walking, so I’m fussy about things like comfort and heel height.

But these were a meagre $30 with free shipping, and they qualified for a buy-one-get-one-free promotion, so I thought I’d take the plunge.

I’ve often found that shoes from cheap Asian shops fit my feet better than those from proper boutiques in Melbourne. I heard somewhere that on average Asian people have wider feet than Caucasian people, so maybe that’s my Dad’s genes shining through. Whatever the reason, even though the quality’s usually dreadful, if I can find a shoe shop in Chinatown that goes up to my size (39) I often walk away with a few pairs. It helps that they’re ridiculously cute, and more adventurous with colour and decoration.

I placed the order on the 1st of Feb, they shipped on the 6th, and I received my package on the 28th.

The shoes were individually boxed, and each pair was in its own dust bag, which was a nice touch.

For my “one-free” I got a pair of bright yellow stitched loafersΒ in a size “8.5-9”. They were disappointingly unflattering (I have to give up on this fantasy that I can wear loafers) so it was with some trepidation that I slipped on the ballet flats.

Perfect.

They’re not leather so my feet do tend to get a bit slippy and sweaty on hot days (which, of course, is ALL THE DAYS) but they’re comfortable, fit well, have good grippy soles that aren’t too thin, and the heart’s a metal buckle that’s been inserted into the fabric of the shoe, so it won’t get loose or fall off, no matter how rough I am with them (and I’m rough on my shoes).

My only regret is that I got the green; in retrospect they’re a bit too similar to my turquoise ballet flats. Black would have been better, especially as I don’t own a pair of black flat shoes.

I might have to go back for seconds!

  1. you look just gorgeous! black is boooooooooring! green are much better πŸ˜‰ I have to have Asian ancestors as well! (nothing really to prove my theory except wide feet that are extremely delicate :-/)

    1. I haven’t been able to find any sequin heart appliquΓ©s – i was looking for my cardigan remix originally – but I might have a go using the leftover sequin fabric from my last remix project

  2. I really love Yes Walker, I have ordered from them three times now, never disappoint. And I have the heart shoes in black, recommend! p.s. ‘9 days straight of 30+ degrees’ … In Perth, we call this “Summer” or “Autumn”.

    1. LOL, you poor thing, Simone. I was in Perth earlier last year, and it was SO hot! A dry heat at least, not too muggy and sticky! YesWalker’s great, and I just placed my first order with their parent company “YesStyle” – hopefully they’re as good!

  3. The dress is gorgeous!
And I like the shoes-although I am not especially crazy about heart-toe shoes πŸ˜‰

Did you ever come across “Shoes of Prey”? (I searched the blog but could not find it. Sorry if you already talked about it). I am tempted to by a pair. Size 43 and narrow feet makes buying shoes a nightmare. However, I am put of by the prices πŸ™ They also have several decorations but no hearts πŸ˜‰

The weather is also crazy in Europe! But it is the opposite. Seeing you in a nice summer dress makes me freezing even more!
We have the darkest winter since weather reports and now a lot of snow again in March: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21754736

All the best from the south of Germany
    Anna

    1. Hi Anna,
I’ve never ordered from Shoes of Prey, but I hear good things! I’ve seen a few of those online custom shoe places, but so far no joy with the heart embellishments!
Good luck with the cold weather – at least spring is only around the corner for you πŸ™‚

  4. now this sounds weird but it works I saw on a tv show recently if you wear shoes in summer without those little stocking sockette things (as they are soooo hard to find in cotton) stick inside your shoe a panty liner!!! Bazzar I know but it absorbs the sweat and also gives you a little more comfort underfoot!

    1. Ooooh, that sounds clever. I’ve tried innersoles, but they always slip around and fold over and ride up. Panty liners sound like a brilliant idea. Thanks!

  5. Girl, you always have the cutest clothes and shoes! I’m in California and it was in the 80’s yesterday. We really don’t have winter in So. Cal. Spring, Summer, and Fall is it. For winter, you have to go to the mountains.

    1. So I hear! My husband’s in NYC at the moment, and he’s DEFINITELY getting winter. He says he’s never been so cold in his life & he keeps sending me photos of snow. SoCal must be the happy medium between the two locales πŸ˜‰

  6. Cute shoes! I went to the website after u pinned the loafers on Pinterest! Tempted but I have trouble with shoes as have wide foot and narrow heel..hmmm!
So were the loafers so unflattering…what about with jeans for autumn??
I’m walking to the station and there’s a breeze- am waiting for a blissful weekend of rain and 22 degrees! It’s the hot sticky icky tossy turny nights that are killing me!

    1. I think because I do have a wide-foot they just look a bit funky, I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on why I don’t like them. I’ll take a pic later and put it up on twitter if you like.

  7. haha’ we share the same shoe size, and fetish of course… i love these tiny hearts, gorgeous! as a girl who cant wear heels, i am almost tempted to buy these, i might show my sis for her bridesmaid shoes though, they would be
    erfect fr her! πŸ™‚

    1. Oh, they’d be great for bridesmaid shoes! Though your wedding shoes are the absolute bomb. Are you hyperventilating as much as I am about the prospect of seeing the REAL ruby slippers at the Hollywood Costume exhibition at Acmi? http://www.acmi.net.au/hollywood-costume.aspx
It’s part of the original exhibition from the V&A, and I’ve got my fingers crossed they’ll travel down under with the rest of the exhibits!

  8. I was going to say, you’re crafty enough to DIY some shoe clips, you don’t need to buy them! I see that others agree with me, so that proves it. πŸ˜‰

  9. I am not sure yet whether to thank you for pointing out yeswalker’s bogof offer plus free international shipping or to tell you off tempting me into spending the whole morning picking out shoes pretending I dont have anything else to do…

    1. LOL, my pleasure! I just spent a pleasant five hours (what? It’s raining today) browsing their parent site “Yesstyle” and I’ve found SO many things I want/need!

  10. Lovely outfit! Your fringe is looking particularly awesome. I was pleased to read your review of yeswalker – I also have wide feet, and was worried about wasting money on shoes that wouldn’t possibly fit. Now I feel more positive about ordering from them! Just have to whittle down my choices from 8 pairs, to 2…

    1. Thanks Gracie! I’ve finally succumbed to trimming it myself, which is nerve-wracking every time, but if I take it slow it’s OK!
Aren’t the shoes on the site darling? I’m buying the black ones too, I’ve decided.

  11. Loving your new shoes! I’ve never heard of yeswalker before, but I’ve already bought a couple of pairs of shoes!

  12. I reckon you should just some find some hearts and stick them on a plain pair of shoes! Try looking for hearts in the hair accessories section of a store like H&M.

  13. Love them – I too have wider feet (something I didn’t realise until I tried a wider shoe and realised they’re not all uncomfortable!). I’ve been buying from Evans in the UK (my size 10 here is a size 7 with them), as they go on sale quickly, have good postage and are comfy (decent soles, often cushioned). Recently, Target have had some for wider feet too, much to my surprise – I’ve gone from a size 10.5-11 with them to a 9.5. They also have some thicker cushioned soles, so I’m happy.

I love your shoes – wish they came in a 10 on the website!
