May(de): Pussy’s Bow

Cardigan: Friends Of Couture

Skirt: Chitra’s Closet

Tights: mesop

Shoes: Poetic Licence

This is the second of the three cardigans that I impulse bought during my pre-birthday cardigan-bender, and it might just be my favourite.

It’s almost a colour-block cardigan, with a navy blue shell, grey cuffs, an oatmeal coloured collar that merges into a killer ruby red pussy bow. It’s totally adorable, even though it’s got those annoying 3/4 length sleeves. (Seriously, it’s winter! Why would I want my wrists and forearms exposed?). It’s perfectly preppy done up, but looks equally cute undone with only the bow fastened loosely at the neck.

It matches splendidly with my Chitra’s Closet skirt, which is one of my favourite wardrobe items. Chitra just launched her Winter 2012 range, and there’s some GORGEOUS pieces on there. My favourite’s probably this amazing black and red coat, I love the swooping hemline and the contrasting shawl collar:

I can more or less squeeze into one of Chitra’s size 14’s because she cuts her clothing to encompass and enhance women’s curves, rather than pretending they don’t exist. Her clothes are always beautifully finished as well with contrasting lining, and little details that really make the piece.

In other news, a good friend of mine has started a blog called TENANT which profiles interesting Melburnites, and uncovers a little bit of what they love about this city.

It’s a great idea – especially since Melbourne is such a sneaky little town; all the best places are hidden away down unlikely alleyways and unmarked doors. Getting a local’s-eye view of where they eat, drink, shop and hang-out is essential for enjoying the city, and it’s nice to hear about other creative, innovative individuals in your neighbourhood. Community, man!

So, if you wanted a little sneak peek inside The Sophisticate and my inner-city pad, including a photo of smoochy Suki (she hasn’t appeared on here for aaages!) click through to my interview, and it’s well worth following TENANT on TumblrΒ too, for her snapshots of Melbourne.

  1. now I have a reason to see tumblr again πŸ˜€
    yeah!
and 3/4 sleeves are extremely annoying but I guess I know why they are so popular: washing dishes! ha!

  2. Came across your blog and really love your kind of grown-up, mature, but sweetheart style. Your blog title is really catchy, too. Lots of inspirations. Greetings from Austr(al)ia. *g*

  3. Hi Lili,

I love the look of 3/4 sleeves, but I am from Brisbane and they are great for our milder winters.

Have you found a good website for buying friends of couture online? I’d love your cardigan, but it isn’t on the danger field website.

  4. This has to be one of my all time favourite outfits of yours! I adore everything about it! Amazing!

Also you should treat yourself to that coat – you said last winter you didn’t have one. Now is the time!!

  5. I absolutely adore this outfit Lilli! Especially the tights, they are gorgeous! I am so sick of trying to find decent wooly tights that don’t bunch around your ankles or need hoiking up every two seconds.

Am unsure as to whether I could squeeze into Friends of Couture cardigans, which is a shame because I love this one!

  6. Love the cardigan! And I second Claire’s suggestion about the coat. Coats are my weakness and I find it impossible to manage without at least ten (for various weathers, for various social situations, various colours to go with various things, summer and winter…)

  7. So you like mesop tights? Might have to try a pair! I bought a Chitra’s Closet skirt with the voucher I won from you! I love her stuff- so gorgeous!

    1. Yeah – I’m pleased I gave them a whirl, but I should actually give a shout-out to the Sock Shop in the Walk Arcade because the manager there actually let me try their display pair on to make sure they would fit properly before I bought them. Best. Customer. Service. EVER.

  8. OK. 3 Things.
    1. Love, love, love this outfit! I think I will wear something (similar, inspired by, completely ripping it off in a non stalky kind of way) tomorrow. Of course I own own nothing with a pussy bow, my tights are all too big and I think my cardigan may be covered in child body fluid but hey, lets see what strategically placed ribbon can do.
    2. I checked out the tenant post and the view from your home is fantastic! I know what you mean by people don’t look up. I lived on the mile in Edinburgh for a while and no-one ever saw us.
    3. Is it sad that I wanted the shot of your bookcase to be less blurred? I love seeing what other people read!
