Happy Public Holiday, fellow ‘strayans! I don’t want to get into the politics of Australia Day vs Invasion Day… All I know is that there’s fireworks and a parade and I don’t have to go to work, so hurrah!
I thought I’d celebrate the day with my favourite Australian icon, Grug.
He used to be an effective way of weeding out fellow members of my generation, since only people born within about three years on either side of me would recognise him, but he’s recently come back into print which is both delightful (I can get Grug again!) and sad-making (he’s no longer a secret mascot for Aussie Gen Xers everywhere).
Totally off-topic, but post-Christmas, my bank balance is looking quite sad and sorry for itself, so I’m doing a lot of vicarious virtual shopping… here’s what’s on my wishlist right now
Looking lovely for Australia Day! I really love the bustle belt…how very unique!

I hail from the GRUG generation and have just started buying the books for my girls!
Grug!
I received a Grug and the Rainbow book at the end of my first year at primary school in 1987. I love Grug!
