I feel like I should apologise for how lax I’ve been with replying to comments for the last two posts! I’m really sorry – I love getting them, and I usually try and reply to everyone personally, but with the packing, and the selling, and the moving, and the back-at-working it’s one of the jobs that’s fallen by the wayside somewhat

Let me say thank you to everyone who takes the time to leave me a comment. Hopefully I can get a bit back to normal again soon, and it won’t be so one-sided.

This outfit looks a bit incomplete and unbalanced… I really needed a navy blue bead necklace to wear with the peter pan collared shirt, but ALAS the one that I strung around my neck suffered a critical failure and broke, sending beads helter skelter around the apartment as I was dashing out the door.

I left Suki knocking them under chairs and tables as I was running late, and didn’t collect them until the afternoon, which is why I’m sans necklace in todays outfit post.

Anyhoo, if I’m not looking entirely delighted with myself, it’s for that reason!

For what it’s worth I am still loving this skirt, and I’m so glad I made the decision to have it remixed from the original dress. The print on it reminds me a little ofย Jackson Pollock; his wonderful, exuberant, splashy paintings have a similar feel. It also reminds me a leeeeeetle of this dress, which I spotted in the Asos Curve range and decided I loved. It looks like it might have a petticoat attached (“layered skirt”. Means layers, right?) and the length’s quoted as being 37.5″ long, so it might be another case of the stock photo being crotch-flashingly short, while the hem of the real deal is actually much more friendly to the knee-shy. It’s happened before.

On that basis, I’m OH SO tempted to buy it, even though I have enough dresses to last a lifetime, and I’m moving in a matter of weeks. But guys! Wouldn’t it look great with a bright yellow cardigan? I have one of those…ย all I need is the dress!

I won’t try to bulldoze you all into trying to convince me to buy it (oh, go on then) so maybe someone else could buy it instead, then wear it with bright yellow accessories, and I could like vicariously? Yes?

Off topic, sorry. Meanwhile, did you see my belt? I made another ribbon bow belt just like the turquoise one, except this belt has a double bow.

I’ve been toying with the idea of making them to order and selling them online in an attempt to supplement my pay check, since I’m trying VERY HARD to save up the money for a trip to New York some time in the Not Too Distant Future. I feel a bit squicky asking people to pay for my amateur fumblings at sewing, but I’m getting a bit more practiced at these belts now, and I’d probably pay money for them myself if I saw them at a craft market.

P1020770_2My earrings were a Christmas gift, and I LOVE them. They’re almost identical to a pair I gave the gifter last Christmas, and every time I saw her wearing them I wanted to snatch them from her earlobes and run down the street before she could catch me, so when she asked me what I wanted for Christmas I sheepishly admitted I wanted earring Just. Like. Hers. To my delight they suit me nearlyย as well as they suit her, and if they weren’t already in my earlobes I’d feel like performing a snatch-and-run on myself.

      1. I’m so freaking jeualos of you! I dream about going to New York every single day!! It’s just so expensive to get there from New Zealand sadly, but one day I will have enough pennies and I’ll run around pretending I’m Blair Waldorf ๐Ÿ˜›

  1. Please sell your belts. I would buy them in all different colours in an instant!
    You look gorgeous as always.

  2. I just had one of the Asos Curve skater dresses arrive (different pattern) and the length is fine. Definitely not flashing anything I shouldn’t be.

  3. I fifth or whatever the selling belts idea. I would make my own, given your wonderful instructions, but I’m pretty lazy when it comes to crafts. So much easier to buy from someone who actually knows what they’re doing.

  4. The way I see it is you put the belts up for sale and people will buy them if they want them and like them enough- they’ll decide, so dont let your worry about them being ‘amateur’ or good enough worry you!

Those earrings are beautiful- delicate and lovely and gorgeous…..def a god present to give and receive!!!

  5. Get the dress! It’s very cute and would look great on you. And it seems as if you have a ready-made market for your belts (including me) so you’ve *already* offset the cost of the dress….Plus, you could wear the dress on your New York trip ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. GOOD THINKING! I’m going to try and find someone who does a great range of colours in different widths of ribbon, then take it from there ๐Ÿ™‚ Stay tuned!

    1. Yeah, I found that too. Bettie Page started selling “bow” belts recently, and when I emailed then to ask what sizes they said “One size only”, up to about a 35″ waist. Too small for me, and considering they go up to a 4X in dresses, probably too small for a big part of their customer base, too. annoying.

  6. Girl, get the dress! Really! The world is not gonna end anytime soon, and you just need to wear something right? ๐Ÿ˜‰
    so.. get the dress!
    HUGZ!

  7. There’s a couple of things going on with that ASOS dress that isn’t really “me,” but I still considered buying it, so my vote on the purchase question goes in the yay column. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. As long as the armholes aren’t that annoying open style that always flashes my bra sides (sleeveless Asos dresses are prone to do that on me) I really like it. It definitely needs to be longer though. And I think I’d like it better with a contrast belt.

      1. This is probably one of my favroite outfits of yours! I love black and polka dots and this is styled so beautifully. I love how you added the blouse under the skirt. You really have a unique perspective and I am obsessed with you and your outfits! In a non creepy way of course. hahahah

  8. I wonder if the shortness of the skirt in the pic is due to the model’s height? Asos lists them in the ‘Info and care’ box, and this one is 5′ 11″…

  9. If you want to sell your belts or your necklaces or anything sell them. Do not worry about if they are good enough or not as long as you accurately represent them. It will be a persons choice to by from you or not. If you do it by and on demand model then you wont be out much money either.

  10. I love the dress, ooh yes get it! The stretchy fabric sounds good too. I would be freaked by the length but yes the models used are nearly always 5’8 or more so will be fine on the vertically challenged amongst us.
I love the pearl earrings, very pretty. They remind me of the pearl earrings from The Girl with a Pearl Earring film/painting.
Good luck with the packing and moving……horrid job at the best of times!

    1. LOL, I might HAVE to get the dress…. it’s so pretty! Hope it’s long enough though!
I’m only 5’4″, so hopefully I should be right with the hem length. They said it was about 37″ long in the description which will put it at my knees ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I have never bought anything from ASOS curve because all the models are so skinny I can’t imagine how it would translate to fitting me. Usually I’m pretty good at looking at the shape of a dress, but it is hard on a 6 foot size 6 model!!! They don’t do themselves any favors!
Sell belts, I’d buy some ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. It’s crazy – I’ve actually found that a few of the pieces I’ve bought from Asos actually look better on a full figure than on the model. This seems especially true with the curve range. The dresses just hang off the models on the website because the sizes start at an 18, and the models can’t be larger than a 12. I know they pin it usually for the photos, but you can see them swimming in the too-big sizes in the runway videos!

  12. I love the ‘ramblingness’ of this post haha! Also, I had no idea about the crotch-hem on Asos. Thankyou! I wonder if that is the same on some of the Modcloth ones as well?

PS. I would buy your belts.
