So I missed last week’s Aussie Curves Challenge (Orange) on account of being in Japan (woohoo!) but I’m squeaking in with this week’s challenge “Mixing Patterns” with two days to go.

I’m not great at pattern mixing. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not really comfortable piecing together an outfit with disparate bits of clothing. I’m much too fond of my matchy-matchy.

When I do pattern mixing I usually start with the same colour palette, and I have discovered that polkadots and stripes are pretty much the “neutrals” of the pattern-mixing world.

Fortunately my voluminous star-print blouse matches my new striped skirt perfectly, though the elasticised waistband needed a belt over the top to make it look more finished.

The skirt’s current season at VirtuΒ and it’s the same one that Jayne – the winner of the $100 Virtu gift voucher – spent her prize on.

It’s actually currently on sale at Virtu, and it definitely gets the thumbs up from me. It’s comfortable and all-day friendly, holding its shape well and so far there’s been no pilling on the jersey fabric. It’s a dense stretch fabric; somewhere between jersey and ponti, think enough to wear on hot days, but not so thing that you feel like every dimple and panty-seam is on display.

  1. I’m your Venus, I’m your fire, your desire πŸ˜€
you should sing it every night to the Sophisticate πŸ˜›
    love ya girl!

  2. I think m. was watching Rage this morning – 80s special, Banarama (and too much Jason Donovan) at 6am – scary (I have a small child, I’m allowed to be up at 6am on a Sunday morning)….

Anyhoo… I’m with you, not a fan of the pattern mixing myself, but I do love your shirt. I haven’t ventured in to Zara yet, as I have in my mind that everything will be too small… Cute belt too.

    1. I was watching Rage (with Rick Astley hosting!!) that morning and I think I mentioned it on Twitter. Sweet, sweet 80’s…!
To be honest this is the only piece I’ve had any luck with at Zara. It does seem to be a lot of smaller stuff – I think this top was meant to be oversize.! I actually heard today that the Zaras in Australia aren’t owned by the regular Zara corporation… they’re actually owned by the people who also run Witchery. Which explains why everything is so $$, and why the larger sizes are so few and far between

  3. Lilli, I confess that the last time I patterned mix I was six! hee hee! I simply don’t think I can pull it off. You, on the other hand, have done so beautifully! The top is stunning. I love how this outfit looks on you! πŸ™‚
