Getting My Emo On

Jeans: Sussan
Striped Top: Dorothy Perkins
Cardigan: Barkins
Shoes: Wittner
Bangle: Phillipa
So I finally managed to find a pair of narrow leg black trousers that I liked, and astonishingly, they’re actually jeans.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with black jeans. Especially narrow leg black jeans. Alongside a sulky demeanour and too much hair product it’s generally recognised as being an Emo wardrobe staple and since I battle against Emo tendencies on darker days anyway I’ve always tried to steer away from resembling one as I, at 31, am well past their usually mid-to-late-teens prime.
Still, a couple of the groovy gals in my bookclub also embrace the dark denim look and look fantastic doing it, so I’m being a copycat and trying my hand at it too.
I figure coupled with a cardigan, a couple of brooches and a grin I’m bucking the Emo trend and joining them in reclaiming the narrow-leg black denim jeans for those who deserve it the most.

  1. at 31 or at 47 (in my case) I think black skinny jeans are super sophisticated and chic – not an emo child in sight!!

  2. I'd agree with the Audrey Hepburn comments. I don't think the black jeans look particularly emo on you at all. I understand the desire to not completely look like a teenager either, though. At 41, I was an 'OG' (original goth) in high school in the '80s. I still love some goth style, but if I dress that way as an adult, I feel too much like I'm wearing a costume or trying too hard to relive my youth. Not the look I'm going for, if I can help it.

  3. Umm.. can I just say those jeans look so awesome? Ah, chic and perfect, I have not quite found a pair that quite embody these things for me. Yours look so great though. Envious!

  4. You look so good in this pair of black skinny jeans!!

I have given up trying to find jeans that look good on me!

I love the cardigan as well!

  5. Now, when you encouraged me to buy my favourite jeans of all time, the skinny leg black ones, you said nothing about emo 15 year olds…I'm wearing them as we speak while I sit by Tilba Lake near our tent. Would hate to think the passing wallabies might mistake me for a tortured teenager.
